What’s the saying…’You can’t fight City Hall‘? That may also to apply to Devon Yacht Club of Amagansett, NY.
According to Intelligencer, it all stems from a debate that started over the club’s plans for renovation, which some members feel it desperately needs.
Well, things got pretty tense…seven longtime members were reportedly ‘censured, suspended, and then, in November, expelled.’ The article goes on to say that the board of governors claims these members were expelled for “disorderly conduct and endangering the good order, welfare, and character of the Club.”
A few members of the club that had their memberships removked included ‘descendants of the Vicks VapoRub inventor and their respective spouses’ (some who did not against the clubs plans).
And now some members that were terminated from the club filed a petition requesting that they be reinstated.
Legal has now entered the chat…because lawsuits reportedly filed by some of the terminated members are asking for reinstatement at the club and $10 million in damages for each complainant.
